Frequently Asked Questions

  • We specialize in working with children, adolescents, adults and families. Our services are tailored to each specific age group we are working with, from play-based therapy with children, to deep thought-provoking conversations with teens and adults.

  • The first session is about getting to know you and/or your family members. We will typically meet with the parent and child for the first half of the first session to discuss your concerns, gather background information, and begin to build a safe and trusting relationship. For the second half of the session, if the child feels comfortable, we like to meet with them individually to continue to build rapport.

  • Every child is different in their struggles and the support they need. Many children benefit from therapy if they are experiencing anxiety, emotional distress, sadness, low self-esteem, or friendship difficulties. Our goal is to get an accurate assessment of the level of support your family needs based on the concerns you express in the first session. If you are unsure, feel free to contact me and we can discuss further.

  • I have many children and teens that come to me struggling to keep up with schoolwork and the level of organization needed to succeed. Parents feel overwhelmed trying to support their child and often feel like that have to "nag" them to get homework done. My job is to help facilitate a better learning experience for the child, by providing skills and accountability in the schooling process, and taking the pressure and stress out of the parent and child relationship. I will help equip your child with organizational skills and strategies in order to prioritize upcoming assignments and stay on top of their work.

  • I work from a combination of a few orientations including CBT, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Attachment, EMDR, trauma focused, and strength based. I believe that each client presents with unique concerns and I tailor my treatment plan and goals to each client's specific needs.

  • Yes, I offer both virtual and in-person sessions. I tend to find that kids respond best to therapy through in-person sessions. In times when a client is sick or transportation/scheduling is an issue, virtual sessions are an option.

  • Yes, I believe that therapy is most successful when the parents and child are both on board and ready to learn. My goal is to equip parents to feel confident in supporting their child throughout the week at home with the skills that are learned in therapy.

  • Each therapist has a different session rate depending on their years of experience and specialized training. Please check under each therapist’s bio for pricing information. The only insurance that we take is ILWU and Lyra. Otherwise, we are out-of-network providers, meaning we do not take insurance. However, we can provide you with a superbill which can be submitted to insurance companies for possible reimbursement.

  • Yes, I work with parents to assess behavioral challenges they are observing at home in order to create a plan and equip parents to feel confident addressing these concerns through strategies learned together in therapy.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of treatment most commonly used to treat PTSD and trauma, but can also be used to treat a variety of other mental health disorders. EMDR involves the therapist guiding the client in accessing particular aspects of the disturbing experience and allowing their bodies to "reprocess" the memory and body sensations in a safe space.
