Positive Affirmations: the building blocks of a healthy childhood self-esteem

The inner voice.

Do you want to help your child begin to pave the road to a healthy self esteem? Start practicing today!

Positive affirmations are feel-good statements that we say to ourselves to encourage and increase the volume of the positive inner voice. These statements help to build confidence and overall grow self compassion and resiliency in challenging situations. Depending on if our inner voice is kind or unkind, the trajectory of our self-esteem moving forward can shift.

How do I help my child begin to develop a kind and compassionate inner voice and grow to have healthy self esteem you ask? It's as simple as every day practice and modeling yourself how you want your children to respond and inwardly speak to themselves when they face challenges and difficulties in life.

Take a few minutes out of your day to sit with your child. I encourage kids to look in the mirror and stand tall while saying these 1-2 affirmationsto themselves. If they are too young to come up with an affirmation of their own, you can come up with one for them. You can also ask your child how they feel and help choose affirmations that feel appropriate to situations they have faced. A few examples of affirmations:

-I am brave, strong, and tough

-I am a good listener

-I am a good friend

-I can do hard things and overcome obstacles

Take the opportunity today to sit with your child and begin to instill in them a kind inner voice.
