Sleep Hygiene: How to get the sleep you’ve been dreaming of

Beep. beep. beep beep.

The sound most of us dread in the early hours of the morning, the alarm. Somehow you just laid your head on your pillow and blinked and it’s already morning again - time to get up. You feel exhausted and not well rested at all. You tossed and turned at the beginning of the night to finally fall asleep only to feel like you slept for 5 minutes.

This sounds like so many of my clients that I see everyday. Feeling as if they are on a hamster wheel always exhausted and never feeling like they used to when it comes to energy. Add in some kids and you feel as exhausted as you did when you went to bed. Are you getting the necessary sleep that your body and brain need to function to their full capacity and be present in your daily life? Probably not, and here’s why.

Many people believe that they have “good enough” sleep habits and can just hop in bed and fall asleep easily. So many of my client’s tell me that they have a difficult time “shutting off” their brain to then finally relax and fall asleep. Our brains are not like computers in which we can just “power off” at a moments notice. Our brains need time and patience to wind down from the busyness of the day to fully relax and fall asleep. We must set up consistent sleep hygiene habits in order to retrain our brains to relax and hit the ultimate goal of falling asleep. Do you struggle with falling asleep or want to improve on your sleep hygiene habits overall? Reach out and I can help you achieve the sleep you have been dreaming of.
